City of Fez Visit Fez and its medina

VISIT THE IMPERIAL CITY OF FEZ.

FEZ WAS THE IMPERIAL CITY OF MOROCCO, AND IS TODAY KNOWN AS THE CULTURAL AND THE SPIRITUAL CAPITAL OF MOROCCO.

THE LARGEST MEDINA IN THE KINGDOM

Fez was founded at the end of the 8th Century AD. It is particularly well-known for its medina, the oldest part of the city, listed in the UNESCO world heritage.

Fes el-Bali is considered to be the heart and center of the medina. This area is the oldest and best preserved of the medina. It was founded during the Early Middle Ages and features notable historic and artistic monuments such as the Andalusian Mosque and the Al-Qaraouiyin Mosque, entirely rehabilitated a few years ago. Fes el-Bali is an entirely pedestrian zone.

After the agitation of the medina, you will definitely enjoy the calm and freshness of the Jnan Sbil botanical garden which was completely renovated in 2010. This splendid park is truly a verdant oasis, and invites you to discover the most beautiful local plants with exotic species. In this unique garden, you will be able to cool down and relax near the beautiful fountains, and enjoy the delicate smell of orange blossom. The Jnan Sbil botanical garden is the oldest public garden of the city. It was founded by Sultan Moulay Abdallah. It covers a total surface of 7 hectares and lies between the medina and the modern city.

The Al-Attarine Madrasa is another unmissable monument. Founded in the 14th century AD, it is one of the oldest Koranic school in Morocco. Its large patio (sensitively restored) features different types of marble, zellij and marquetry work using Cedar wood.
